“Please check your network password and try again.”
You may encounter this message during the registration process, usually after there has been a minute or so of your phone displaying the message “Registration in progress”.
There are three main causes for this message.
- Cause #1: The device cannot find or connect to a 2.4 GHz network. This will happen if the phone is connected to either a 5 GHz network, or dual-band network in which band steering is being implemented by the router or ISP.
- Solution: Connect your phone to an existing 2.4 GHz network, or configure your router to either split the bands, disable band steering, (aka client steering, aka smart Wifi), or enable a 2.4 GHz IoT or Guest network. Then, connect your phone to whichever 2.4 GHz network you’ve created, or connect it to a dual band network in which band steering has been disabled, before you begin the registration procedure.
- Cause #2: The device is too far from the router during the registration process.
- Solution: Move the device closer to the router before you begin the registration procedure.
- Cause #3: Oddly enough, the least common reason for this message is an incorrect network password, but if the password is wrong, this is the message you’ll get.
- Solution: Make sure you are paying attention to case when you are typing in your network password.
